Three Rooker Island

A newer island that emerged in the 1980s, accessible only by boat — one of three destinations on our guided jet ski island tour.

Three Rooker Island is one of three possible destinations on our 90-minute guided jet ski Island Tour Experience. Accessible only by boat, it is south of Anclote Key and north of Honeymoon Island in Pinellas County, Florida.

Three Rooker Island is a relatively new island. It emerged in the 1980s as water currents built up the sandbar above sea level. By the 1990s, vegetation had established itself on the newly formed island, making it more resistant to washing away. Part of the Anclote Key Preserve State Park, Three Rooker Island is partially protected for nesting seabirds while also being a popular place for local boaters. Its shape and size often change from interaction with ocean currents, providing a unique landscape that shifts over time.

Because it is so new and accessible only by water, Three Rooker Island offers a different experience from the more developed state parks. The island is largely undeveloped — no facilities, no boardwalks, just sand, vegetation, and the open Gulf. This makes it a particularly memorable stop for jet ski riders looking for an off-the-beaten-path destination.

On the ride to Three Rooker Island, dolphins are frequently seen swimming alongside the jet skis. Riders stop at the island to take photos and experience the raw, newly formed landscape. The shallow waters around the island are popular with seabirds, and the sandy shoreline is ideal for shell collecting.

The ride from Clearwater Beach takes riders through the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico, where the diverse ecosystem of marine life and coastal vegetation makes up the local environment. Our trained guides supervise the entire ride and provide all safety equipment, ensuring a fun and safe experience for riders of all skill levels — from first-timers to those who have ridden before.
