Honeymoon Island
A barrier island across St. Joseph's Sound and one of three destinations on our guided jet ski island tour.
Honeymoon Island is one of three possible destinations on our 90-minute guided jet ski Island Tour Experience. When conditions and group preference point us north, riders carve across the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico toward this barrier island, located across St. Joseph's Sound from Palm Harbor.
Honeymoon Island State Park is the most-visited state park in Florida. It features four miles of beach and covers 385 acres of land area. The island and its neighbor, Caladesi Island, were once part of a single large barrier island that split in half during a major hurricane in 1921 — the same storm that cut Hurricane Pass and created the two distinct landforms visitors see today.
Before the early 1940s, the island was known as Hog Island. The name was changed when honeymoon-style huts were built on the island for vacationing couples. In 1964, a causeway was constructed to the island for a planned residential area, but the plan was scrapped in 1969, and the state purchased most of the island in 1974, preserving it as a public park.
Riders on the jet ski tour to Honeymoon Island frequently spot dolphins swimming alongside the skis during the ride across the Gulf. Upon arrival, the group stops at the island to take photos, explore the shoreline, and take in the natural surroundings. The shallow waters and sandy stretches make it a good spot for wildlife viewing — shorebirds, osprey, and other coastal species are commonly seen around the island.
The ride to Honeymoon Island takes you through the diverse ecosystem of the Gulf of Mexico, where marine life and coastal vegetation make up the local environment. Our trained guides supervise the entire ride, ensuring a fun and safe experience for riders of all skill levels, from first-timers to experienced jet skiers.
